The Sweet Symphony of Peppermint Bark Brownies

December 18, 2023

In the world of confectionery, few flavor combinations evoke the holiday spirit as perfectly as the marriage of rich chocolate and cool, refreshing peppermint. This delightful pairing comes to life in Peppermint Bark Brownies, a festive treat that brings together the comforting warmth of brownies with the invigorating chill of peppermint. Join us as we unwrap the history of this sweet symphony and learn how to create a batch of these indulgent brownies for your next celebration.

Peppermint bark itself has a storied history, with roots tracing back to traditional European peppermint candies. However, it wasn't until the late 20th century that the iconic layered peppermint bark we know today gained popularity. The marriage of white and dark chocolate, infused with the essence of peppermint, created a treat that quickly became a holiday favorite.

The fusion of peppermint bark with brownies is a stroke of culinary genius. Brownies, celebrated for their fudgy texture and chocolatey decadence, provide the perfect canvas for the cool, minty explosion of peppermint bark. The result is a dessert that captures the essence of winter in every bite.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

- 2 cups granulated sugar

- 4 large eggs

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 cup all-purpose flour

- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 1 cup dark chocolate chips

- 1 cup white chocolate chips

- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix melted butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Fold in the dark chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  5. In a small bowl, melt the white chocolate chips. Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the brownie batter.
  6. Use a knife or toothpick to create swirls with the white chocolate.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies over the brownies immediately after removing them from the oven.
  9. Allow the brownies to cool before cutting into squares.
