With roots in rustic kitchens and family gatherings, this robust stew has stood the test of time, offering a comforting blend of tender beef, hearty vegetables, and aromatic spices. November, with its chilly ambiance, is the perfect time to indulge in a steaming bowl of beef stew. The seasonal vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and onions are readily available, and the slow-cooking process allows the flavors to meld into a rich and satisfying experience. It's a dish that warms both the body and the soul, making it a staple for fall and a popular choice for Thanksgiving gatherings.

Below is a recipe for a Classic Beef Stew!

Ingredients:

- 2 lbs stew beef, cubed

- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

- 1 onion, chopped

- 3 cloves garlic, minced

- 4 cups beef broth

- 1 cup red wine (optional)

- 4 carrots, sliced

- 4 potatoes, diced

- 2 bay leaves

- 1 teaspoon thyme

- Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the cubed beef and brown on all sides.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and red wine, scraping the bottom of the pot to release any flavorful bits.
  4. Add the carrots, potatoes, bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 2-3 hours until the beef is tender.
