May 17, 2024
Japanese egg sandwiches, known as "tamago sando," are a beloved snack in Japan and are gaining popularity worldwide for their deliciously simple flavours and satisfying texture. These sandwiches are perfect for picnics, offering a creamy and slightly sweet filling between soft, crustless bread. We'll show you how to make Japanese egg sandwiches for your next outdoor adventure.
Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 8 slices of soft, crustless white bread
- Butter, for spreading (optional)
Instructions:
- Hard-boil the eggs: Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, cover the saucepan and remove it from the heat. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes. Then, transfer them to a bowl of ice water to cool completely before peeling.
- Prepare the egg salad: Peel the hard-boiled eggs and finely chop them. In a bowl, combine the chopped eggs with mayonnaise, sugar, salt, and white pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread. Divide the egg salad evenly between 4 slices of bread, spreading it evenly. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread to make sandwiches.
- Cut and serve: Using a sharp knife, trim the crusts off the sandwiches. Cut each sandwich into halves or quarters to create smaller, bite-sized pieces that are perfect for a picnic.
- Pack and enjoy: Wrap the sandwiches individually in parchment paper or plastic wrap to keep them fresh. Pack them in a cooler or insulated bag with ice packs to keep them cool until you're ready to eat.
Japanese egg sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make option for a picnic. With their creamy egg salad filling and soft, crustless bread, they are sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you're planning a picnic, consider making these tasty sandwiches for a simple and satisfying meal on the go!
